The Challenge
It has been a tough 18 months for operators – beyond the obvious financial challenges caused through COVID restrictions, they were also faced with increased pressures around hygiene / cleaning, staff recruitment and day to day operational management.
At Simply Gym there is a relentless commitment and drive to support their members and add value to their experience. To do this they need the right people in the right positions and their leaders must have the necessary tools in their armoury in order to be successful.
The Solution
Given the high level of operational surprises and challenges, the Mike Tyson quote ‘everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth’ resonated with Simply Gym who contacted Excelsior to discuss training opportunities.
Working with Richard from the team, Excelsior revised their existing Intelligent Leadership course to be able to provide a workshop focused on preparing leaders to deal with whatever is going on around them.
The Result
The one-day workshop was delivered at Swansea City FC’s stadium to the senior leadership team from Bay Leisure and Simply Gym. Focusing on ensuring the team appreciated the importance of having a calm head, creating workable strategies and executing upon sound tactics.
The day was then supported with digital learning, on a bespoke learnM site, so the team can revisit the materials as and when they need them.
I’ve known Chris and Keith for at least five years now and they have consistently delivered training to our teams. During one discussion with Chris, during lockdown, I began thinking about how we could better support our leadership team.
When Chris sent the proposal for Excelsior’s Intelligent Leadership much of the material dealt directly with many of the challenges we are facing right now and so we allocated one day, of our quarterly meeting, for Chris to come and deliver to the team.
The day was incredibly useful and facilitated many discussions around how we currently strategise around our operations and gave the team models and systems to take away, back into the business.
Excelsior then provided digital learning, to support the in-person work we’ve done, so that our people can continue to develop themselves, in their own time.
