We recently had the pleasure of being invited to the UK Active Uprising event as a partner of Willmott Dixon. (Special thanks to Nick Mennell (left) – Leisure Sector Manager for organising our attendance).
The event, held at the Manchester Central Convention Complex on Thursday 6th June, included a full day of talks, workshops and seminars, followed by the UK Active Award Ceremony, in the evening.
Starting at the Technogym sponsored. early morning workout, operators, equipment suppliers and various others, all joined together to give their bodies an intensive wake-up call. Many thanks to Ben, our trainer, for delivering an exciting and enjoyable, yet challenging session.
Thankfully, we had time to recover before the main event; an opening address by acting UK Active CEO – Huw Edwards. who delivered a fascinating session entitled ‘Active Lab’. This consisted of nine digital companies pitching for support with the audience’s votes leading to one company being crowned the winner.
The rapid 90 second segment was presented in a great format, and all candidates performed well under enormous pressure. It was clear they all had worthy offerings and this session was a great way to help them get both promotion and recognition for their brands..
We were particularly impressed, for different reasons with Coach AI, Shapewatch and Immersive Rehab. Well done to all the candidates and congratulations to Coach AI on their victory.
Next up, keynote presenter Jeremy Snapes discussed the links between performance (in any aspect of life) behaviours and the successful mindset. Jeremy’s delivery was outstanding, well timed, well positioned and inspiring. ‘Todays thoughts determine tomorrow’s behaviours’ being just one of his incredibly impactful quotes.
The rest of the day flew by with plenty of networking opportunities and a multitude of break out sessions / workshops available. We visited lots of sponsor stands, including the Active IQ stand where Chris was requested to partake in their ‘quote of the day’ competition, to which he answered: ‘to know the sun is there, even when it’s raining’.
Later on, Jenny Patrickson – Active IQ Managing Director revealed that she had chosen this quote as the winner. Thank you Active IQ.
In the evening, we attended the UK Active awards ceremony, where operators, suppliers and other organisations are acknowledged for their efforts in spearheading a new area, providing outstanding customer service, being inclusive in their actions, or having a level of exceptional success in their own right.
The awards were well received and there was plenty of light hearted moments thrown in by the one and only, Mr Motivator – Derek Evans, who was also running video interviews with some of the attendees.
It was clear there are many passionate individuals, teams and organisations, in our industry, who are seeking to encourage and facilitate both change and growth. As we have come to expect from the UK Active team, this years Uprising event was successful in bringing together many different elements of the industry, all under one roof.
Well done to all those involved in making this happen.
